Have You Ever Dreamed Of Collecting Rare Gold Coins?

Rare gold coins can be an expensive hobby or even an expensive investment. Collecting rare gold coins can be a lifetime endeavor. Gold itself is increasing in value, while rare gold coins are increasing even more. It is harder to value a rare gold coin than it is one of the more modern coins. Much of the value for the rare coins lies in the fact of their rarity.

Modern gold coins are priced based on the quality and amount of gold used to make them. However, the antique or rare gold coins are valued based on how old they are and what condition they are in. Antiques are not the only rare coins around though. Many people make the mistake of thinking that a rare coin is one that is very old. However, any mistake made while coins are being minted can result in a rare coin.

Some examples of errors resulting in rare coins:

1. No mint marking

2. Missing words

3. Misspelled words

4. Wrong materials

5. Double stamping

Any of these errors can and do result in the production of rare coins. Many of these mistakes are not noticed until after the coins are released for use. This is why many rare coin collectors can be found going over all the change they receive. There is no telling where or when they may find a rare coin in the change they receive at the store.

However it is unlikely that you would find a rare gold coins in your pocket change. In fact it is unlikely that you would find a common gold coin in your pocket change. In order to obtain rare gold coins you will probably need to go through a coin exchange. Rare gold coins are even more expensive than normal gold coins because there are so few of them produced. Once the error is spotted it is corrected. However, since there is always a chance that a collection will be lost or destroyed there is still a chance that a rare coin will increase in value.

The best way to ensure that the rare gold coin you think you are buying is legitimate is to go through a reputable coin exchange. You may be able to find the coin cheaper elsewhere, but how would you know that it was legitimate? You do not want to make that much of an investment only to find out that the coin you purchased was stolen.

 (Victoriaville) 1992

(Victoriaville) 1992

$19.98

This is a live performance of Braxton’s classic quartet of the ’80s and ’90s at the annual festival of new music held in Victoriaville, Canada. Unlike many of the other documented recordings of this group, the material, with the exception of the closing track, consisted entirely of (at the time) recently composed pieces. Since much of Braxton’s writing in the early ’90s involved the exploration of very fluid and expansive sound territories, there are none of his infectious, bop-derived numbers or any plaintively emotional ballads. Instead we have a series of fairly knotty compositions where the thematic elements are elusive, recurring melodies rare and regular meter almost non-existent. All of which makes for one of the more challenging recordings by this quartet, requiring of the listener an approach perhaps more suited to contemporary classical music than to jazz. In fact, in the excellent and detailed liner notes/interview by John Corbett, Braxton makes reference to his concept of “navigating through form” and to the music and graphic scores of the composer Earle Brown. One is advised, therefore, not to listen for the standard (even as that term applies to Braxton’s music) theme/solos/theme format here; rather, one listens to the musicians, alone or in groups, investigating the rich, strange soundscape structure in which they find themselves immersed. Even so, there’s a feeling of pent up energy waiting to be unleashed so when the band vaults into a raging version of Coltrane’s “Impressions” as an encore, it’s hardly surprising. Indeed, one detects a very human sense of relief as they step back into familiar territory. ~ Brian Olewnick, Rovi

 1961-1990: A Complete Career Anthology

1961-1990: A Complete Career Anthology

$36.98

To most casual listeners, Del Shannon was a one-hit (or, at best, two-hit) wonder. This two-CD anthology goes a long way toward correcting that inaccurate perception, covering virtually every high point in a career that, admittedly with some ups and downs, yielded some great and popular music across nearly 30 years. Every phase of the late singer/composer/guitarist’s career is represented, and though “Runaway is usually the only song associated with Shannon, this collection reveals many other sides to his work and sound, from the romantic Shannon original “Jody” to the defiant Pomus-Shuman song “Ginny in the Mirror.”The really good part about this set is that a lot of the songs appear here in their rare stereo mixes. With most classic rock & roll, that would not necessarily be a virtue, stereo being superfluous as well as harmful to its impact, but in Shannon’s case it is — his records usually featured very busy, complex instrumental parts (an attribute that he shared in common with the Beatles and a lot of other British invasion acts) that can be discerned much more easily in the stereo versions. All of the bases are covered right up through his work in the late ’60s with Andrew “Loog” Oldham and into the 1970s and 1980s obscurities. His version of the Zombies’ hit “Tell Her No” (cut for Island Records in the mid-’70s) and the Dave Edmunds-produced “And the Music Plays On” are represented, along with the results of his collaboration with Tom Petty and his comeback with the early-’80s NBC television series Crime Story (which returned “Runaway,” used as the show’s title theme, to the charts). As is usual with Raven Records, the annotation is extremely thorough and the mastering is impeccable. ~ Bruce Eder, Rovi
